Genus Eaprasiola Heesch, Guiry & Rindi , gen. nov.
ETYMOLOGY. — Derived from “Ea”, a prefix based on the abbreviation of “East Asian” as a connotation of the three east Asian countries where this species has so far been recorded from, i.e. Japan, South Korea and China ( Guiry & Guiry 2024).
TYPE. — Eaprasiola japonica (Yatabe) Heesch, Guiry & Rindi , comb. nov. (basionym: Prasiola japonica Yatabe ), below.
DESCRIPTION
Thalli consisting of oval or linear blades, up to 4 cm wide and 20 cm long, attached to the substratum by a small, callus-like holdfast. Reproduction takes places sexually by oogamy and asexually by aplanospores. Life history consists of a repetition of the same generation that reproduces both asexually and sexually. Living in freshwater.
