Prasiola japonica Yatabe , Botanical Magazine, Tokyo 5 (52): 186, pl. XXV: figs 1-5 ( Yatabe 1891).

TYPE MATERIAL. — University of Tokyo ( TI).

SYNTYPE LOCALITIES. — Nikko (province of Shimotsuke), Kiriu (Kozuke), Shibakawa (Suruga), and Oimura (Mino) [ Japan] ( Yatabe 1891: 188). The figures in Yatabe’s pl. XXV are of material sent to him by “Mr. I. Ogasawara” collected in March 1891 from Kiriugawa, “[…] a rapid steam near the town of Kiriu”, Kozuke Province [now Gunma Prefecture, central Honshu]. This material would be the most suitable for lectotypification .

REMARKS

Ryôkichi (Ruôkichi) Yatabe (1851-1899) was the first professor of botany at the University of Tokyo’s School of Science during the Meiji-period. His algal specimens are at the University of Tokyo (Dr Taiju Kitayama pers. comm.) and not at the University of Sapporo (Prof. Kazuhiro Kogame pers. comm.).
