( Figs 34 View FIGURES 27–37 , 69 View FIGURES 68–72 , 101 View FIGURES 97–104 )

Type material. Holotype: ♂, with labels and data: beige, handwritten in black ink “ Filipinas Sanchez.” / white, handwritten in black ink “ no 23 Manila ” / “white, black framed, black printed “MNCN_ Ent 392232” ( MNCN).

Description. Measurements. Body length 5.67 mm, width 1.65, ratio L/W of pronotum 0.89, ratio L/W of elytra 1.88. Colour glossy, piceous. Antennae, mouthparts, intermediate and hind legs fuscous.

Head about a quarter narrower than pronotum. Clypeus with central part straight, with rounded slightly projecting teeth laterally, separated from clypeal-wing by indistinct notch; wing not as projecting as clypeal-teeth, separated from supraantennal plate by obtuse-angled notch, supraantennal plate with margin distinctly convex at middle, slightly convex anteriorly, clypeus, wing, and supraantennal plate slightly reflexed margined. Supraantennal plate extended posteriorly into a widened keel, separated from wing by narrow furrow. Clypeus transverse, convex, clypeal-furrow flattened, wider and more distinct laterally. Frons distinctly convex, with pore at middle, nearly smooth, separated from supraantennal plate and supraorbital carina by distinct furrow, with clypeal seta in front; supraorbital carinae distinct, with two supraorbital setigerous punctures at middle of eye and at posterior end of gena. Neck constriction closed, formed by a conspicuous step from frons, with row of medium sized punctures posteriorly. Eye prominent, gena small. Antenna elongate, reaching up to basal channel of pronotum. Labrum trapezoid, straight anteriorly, isodiametrically reticulated, six-setose. Mentum irregularly reticulated, lobe flat, laterally convex, medially slightly concave, tip angular, median tooth wide, flat, oval at tip, distinctly higher than lobes.

Pronotum ( Fig. 69 View FIGURES 68–72 ) with disk distinctly convex in frontal and moderately convex in lateral view. Shape square to sub-cordate, distinctly contracted anteriorly, looking somewhat trapezoid, distinctly wider than long. Reflexed lateral margin microscopically crenulate (80-fold), convex, widest at basal third; anterior angle rounded off, posterior angle distinctly marked by tooth, lateral channel moderately wide, isodiametrically reticulated, continuing up to base as narrow, convex margin. Median line engraved, complete, joining anterior transverse line. Anterior transverse line distinct, complete. Disk bilaterally with smaller sized punctures in basal half, medially as circular group, laterally as band continuing anteriorly, with few slight transverse wrinkles laterally, with isodiametric reticulation at base, with impression of posterior setigerous puncture with large diameter, distant from margin by diameter of pore. Lateral margin from posterior angle to flange of base slanted with angle of around 25°. Basal channel on flange wide, rugose, with narrow, obtuse carina.

Elytron Fig. 34 View FIGURES 27–37 ) with disk in frontal view moderately and in laterally view slightly convex. Shape of elytra elongate, slightly less than double as long as wide, with lateral margin slightly convex at middle, maximum width at middle. Humerus distinct but rounded. Reflexed lateral margin slightly crenulate in anterior quarter (40-fold). Row of setigerous punctures in the lateral channel regular in size and distance. Scutellar striole distinct; setigerous tubercle at base of first stria distinct, with tubercle at base of third interval, basal declivity perpendicularly falling to pedunculus, with isodiametric reticulation. Striae moderately deep, impunctate, one to four free at base, five and six joining at humerus, one to four ending free at apex, five and six joining at apex. Intervals moderately convex, interval three with four setigerous punctures joining third stria, interval five joining lateral margin at humerus as short carina, interval carinate apically, seventh at apex with step-like carina. Surface of interval one to seven glossy, interval eight with distinct isodiametric reticulation, apex reticulated by a quarter.

Hind wing fully developed.

Lower surface. Proepisternum isodiametrically reticulated, with fine transverse wrinkles laterally. Sternite of abdomen laterally with isodiametric reticulation, shingle-like at middle. Last visible sternite with the two marginal setigerous punctures widely separated, with slight projection posteriorly at middle where it is flattened and smooth, with narrow marginal furrow at middle.

Legs. Protibia of moderate size, with longitudinal reticulation, with sulcus dorsally, with three spines and obtuse tubercle, basal tarsomere distinctly flattened at base, carinate, laterally with two tubercles and three seta at middle of tarsomere. Intermediate tibia with nine tubercles at the lateral side, with slender spur near apex, all setae furnished. Tarsomeres of front and intermediate leg indistinctly widened.

Male genitalia ( Fig. 101 View FIGURES 97–104 ). Median lobe extraordinary slender, nearly straight, slightly arcuate at apical tip, in lateral view shaped like elongated duckbill. Parameres robust, with distinct apophyses, slightly distorted, each with small seta at apex.

Female gonocoxites and epipleurite unknown.

Variation. The clypeus shows asymmetric wings. On the pronotum, the puncture pattern is slightly different on the two sides. On the right elytron, striae between intervals six to eight are somewhat confluent due to individual wear.

Distribution. Known from the type locality Manila in the Philippines.

Diagnosis. A medium sized piceous species with square to sub-cordate pronotum and interval eight of the elytron reticulated. It differs from the most similar taxa C. wallacei wallacei Putzeys and C. wallacei philippinensis Kult mainly by the head with the convex frons with distinct step-like vaulted neck constriction, and by the nearly straight and conspicuously slender male aedeagus.

Etymology. The name is a patronym in honour of Mercedes Paris (noun in apposition), (MNCN), who made me aware of this material during my visit at the MNCN in spring 2024 and who supported me with this and other contributions.
