Clivina depressa depressa Kult, 1951 View in CoL

( Figs 9 View FIGURES 3–14 , 44 View FIGURES 38–52 , 79 View FIGURES 73–84 )

Clivina depressa Kult, 1951: 26 View in CoL ; Balkenohl, 2001: 14, 2017: 255; Lorenz, 2005: 142; 2024: W9S6.

Type material. Holotype: ♂, with labels and data: white, black printed “Kankau (Koshun) Formosa H. Sauter 1912” / red, black framed and black printed “TYPE” / white, handwritten in black ink and black printed “ C. depressa Kt. det. K. Kult, 1948” / white, black printed “COLLECTIO KAREL KULT COLL.A.DOSTAL, 1999” ( CADW).

Remarks. Because the specimen is the only available type material, it is the holotype by default. Missing parts are: left front leg, right terminal tarsomere, right hind tibia and tarsomeres. The head and anterior half of the pronotum shows micro-scratches giving the surface a dull appearance.

There is a short description in Kult (1951).

Redescription. Measurements. Holotype: Body length 6.08 mm, width 1.67 mm; ratio L/W of pronotum 1.01; ratio L/W of elytra 1.99. Colour glossy, almost uniformly fuscous to ferruginous. Supraantennal plate and wing with margin more pale, mandibles piceous.

Head a sixth narrower than pronotum. Clypeus with central part nearly straight, laterally with rounded teeth, separated from clypeal-wing by small but distinct notch; wing not as advanced as clypeal-teeth, obtuse; separated from supraantennal plate by obtuse notch, supraantennal plate laterally nearly straight in anterior half; clypeus, wing, and supraantennal plate reflexed margined. Supraantennal plate extended posteriorly into an obtuse keel, separated from wing by a slightly widened furrow. Clypeus with obtuse transverse carina, clypeal-furrow indicated laterally by flat impressions. Frons slightly convex, with pore-like impressions at middle, separated from supraantennal plate and supraorbital carina by furrow, with clypeal seta in front; supraorbital carinae of moderate size, fused with frons in posterior half of the carina, with two supraorbital setigerous punctures at middle of eye and posterior end of the gena. Neck constriction closed, formed by band of medium sized punctures and step from frons. Eye regularly sized, gena small but distinct. Antenna long, reaching up to flange of pronotum. Labrum nearly straight, irregularly reticulated, six-setose. Mentum laterally isodiametrically reticulated, transverse at middle, lobe oval, flattened, with fine transverse obtuse carinae, median tooth wide, rounded anteriorly, indistinctly higher than lobes.

Pronotum ( Fig. 44 View FIGURES 38–52 ) with disk distinctly flattened in frontal and lateral view. Sub-quadrate, as long as wide. Reflexed lateral margin smooth, slightly convex laterally, with short straight but anteriorly attenuating part at level of anterior setigerous puncture, widest at middle; anterior angle distinct, rounded, posterior angle indicated by somewhat rounded tooth; lateral channel moderately wide, irregularly reticulated, continuing up to base as narrow, convex margin. Median line moderately narrow, deeply engraved, complete, with short transverse wrinkles basally. Anterior transverse line fine, joining median line, just reaching anterior margin. Disk with small sized punctures resembling very indistinctly to a letter Y, with few flattened transverse wrinkles laterally, with isodiametric reticulation at base, with posterior setigerous puncture distant from margin by two diameters of puncture. Lateral margin from posterior angle to flange of base slanted with angle of around 45°. Basal channel on flange wider than lateral channel, distinctly carinate and posteriorly with transverse reticulation.

Elytron ( Fig. 9 View FIGURES 3–14 ) with disk in frontal and lateral view distinctly flattened. Shape of elytra elongate, about two times longer than wide, with subparallel margin anterior middle, maximum width at middle. Humerus distinct, rounded, slightly prominent. Reflexed lateral margin subcrenulated posterior humerus. Row of setigerous punctures in the lateral channel interrupted anterior middle by a short distance. Scutellar striole distinct; setigerous tubercle at base of first stria distinct, with distinct tubercle at base of third interval, basal declivity with isodiametric reticulation. Striae not deep, nearly impunctate, one to four free at base, five and six joining at humerus, one and two, three and four, and five and six joining at apex. Intervals slightly convex, interval three with five setigerous punctures joining third stria, interval eight carinate at apex. Surface of interval one to six glossy on disk, interval seven and eight with isodiametric reticulation, apical quarter of elytron with isodiametric reticulation.

Hind wing fully developed.

Lower surface with proepisternum isodiametrically reticulated, transverse wrinkles not visible. Sternite of abdomen laterally with isodiametric reticulation, with transverse reticulation at middle. The two marginal setigerous punctures are widely separated.

Legs with profemur with indistinct reticulation. Protibia covered with irregular reticulation, sulcate dorsally, with three spines, apical spine indistinctly widened apically, movable spur distinctly shorter than apical spine, arcuate. First tarsomere elongated, distinctly flattened at base, with acute tubercle at middle of tarsomere. Intermediate tibia with seven tubercles at the lateral side, with slender spur near apex, all setae furnished. Tarsomeres of front and intermediate leg slightly widened.

Male genitalia ( Fig. 79 View FIGURES 73–84 ). Median lobe regularly arcuate at middle, apically continuously attenuated and flattened, tip of apex slightly curved laterally. Parameres moderately slender, with small apophysis, hyaline apically, with one seta at apex, each.

Female gonocoxites and epipleurite unknown.

Variation unknown.

Distribution. Known from the type locality Kankau in the South of Taiwan.

Diagnosis. A medium sized fuscous to ferruginous species with square pronotum and interval seven and eight of the elytron reticulated. It differs mainly from the most similar species C. subdepressa Kult by the pronotum which appears longer than wide and by the much shorter flange at base. In addition, the labrum has six setigerous punctures (five in C. subdepressa ), and on the elytron there are five setigerous punctures.
