Distribution — Tropical East Africa, Madagascar and adjacent islands to SE Asia, tropical Australia, and New Caledonia; throughout Malesia (Van Ooststroom & Hoogland 1953).

Habitat & Ecology — In thickets, secondary forests, teak-forests, grassy places, along fields, hedges, waysides; often on dry-soil; from sea level to c. 600(–880) m (Van Ooststroom & Hoogland 1953).
