Puccinia neovelutina Kakish., Jing X. Ji & T. Kasuya
Replaced name:— Aecidium elaeagni Dietel
Heterotypic synonym:— Puccinia velutina Kakish. & S. Sato
Type:— Holotype in B (700016494). Epitype in TNS (F80570).
Description:—See description of P. velutina by Kakishima et al. (1982) and Hiratsuka et al. (1992), and that of P. neovelutina by Kasuya et al. (2018).
Hosts and distribution in Japan:—0, I on Elaeagnus glabra Thunb. (Hon, Shi, Kyu), E. macrophylla Thunb. (Hon. Kyu), E. maritima Koidz. (Hon), E. pungens Thunb. (Hon. Shi, Kyu, Ryu), E. thunbergii Serv. (Ryu), E. umbellata Thunb. var. umbellata (Hon) , E. umbellata var. rotundiflora Makino (Hon); II, III on Carex lenta D. Don ex Spreng. [= C. brunnea var. nakiri (Ohwi) Ohwi ] (Hon). ( Ito 1950, Hiratsuka 1960, Kakishima & Sato 1982, Hiratsuka et al. 1992).
Notes:—Life cycle of this species was proved by Kakishima et al. (1982) ( Hiratsuka et al. 1984). Aecidium elaeagni Dietel is the legitimate earliest name of this species. Therefore, a new combination name, based on this anamorphic species name, should be proposed under the ICNafp Shenzhen Code ( Turland et al. 2018). Because Puccinia elaeagni Yoshin. is a preoccupied available name Kasuya et al. (2018) proposed a new name, P. neovelutina , as a replaced name for this species to avoid taxonomic confusion. Spermogonial and aecial stages of this species have been reported from China and Taiwan ( Ito 1950, Tai 1979, Hiratsuka & Chen 1991).
