Distribution Portugal. Mainland: Faro ( Hodkinson & Hollis 1981, as Rhachistoneura varicicosta ; this study), Leiria ( Hodkinson & Hollis 1981, as R. varicicosta ); Tavares (1905a) reported an unidentified psyllid from Castelo Branco which might have concerned this species.
Host plants Portugal. Cistaceae : Cistus albidus L., C. calycinus L., C. halimifolius L., C. salviifolius L. (this study). Tavares (1905a) reported an unidentified psyllid from C. ladanifer (as C. ladaniferus ) L., which is a likely host. Hodkinson & Hollis (1981) reported material from Portugal from Ericaceae : Calluna vulgaris (L.) Hull which they considered to be a probable host. Based on the presence of immatures and adults, Rapisarda (1987) showed that this is not the case, and that Cistus spp. are hosts of this species.
Cistus albidus , C. calycinus and C. halimifolius are reported here the first time as hosts of L. varicicosta .
