Cacopsylla pyri ( Linné, 1758) View in CoL
Distribution Portugal. Mainland: no details provided ( Coelho 1993; Torres et al. 2014); Leiria, Lisbon ( Marques 2011). Madeira: Madeira Island ( Aguiar & Martin 1999).
Host plants Portugal. Rosaceae : Pyrus communis L. ( Matias 1983; Aguiar & Martin 1999; Torres et al. 2014).
Comments. According to Matias (1983), C. pyri has been present in Portugal for a long time but emerged as a pest only in 1977–1978. He also suggested that C. pyrisuga is much less frequent in Portugal than C. pyri , and he drew attention to the possible occurrence of C. pyricola in Portugal. We think that the occurrence of C. bidens is more likely than that of C. pyricola . Matias (1983) described plants with symptoms associated with “pear decline”; the presence of ‘ Candidatus Phytoplasma pyri’ was, however, confirmed only much later in mainland Portugal ( Marques 2011; Torres et al. 2014; CABI 2021).
