Monophyly of Acroceratitis Hendel View in CoL
Phylogenetic analysis ( Fig. 29 View FIGURE 29 ) using COI sequences of seven species of Acroceratitis and eight other species of Gastrozonini with two species of Bactrocera ( Dacini ) as outgroup supported the monophyly of genus Acroceratitis with good statistical support (bootstrap value-98). In this study and from the published literature ( Hardy, 1973, 1974), all species examined have the proctiger much larger than the epandrium like other Gastrozonini but wholly covered with dense fine hairs, which is unique in Tephritidae and probably a synapomorphy for the genus.
