Stenodema Laporte, 1832:40 View in CoL ; Kerzhner, 1964:958 (key); Wagner, 1974 (key, description); Muminov, 1989 (revision); Schwartz, 2008 (diagnosis).

This genus currently includes 57 species and has a principally Holarctic distribution, with several species reported from Southeast Asia and one from South Africa ( Schwartz, 2008; Schuh, 2002 –2013). So far five species ( S. calcarata View in CoL , S. pilosa View in CoL , S. laevigata View in CoL , S. turanica View in CoL , and S. virens View in CoL ) have been found and documented from Iran ( Hosseini, 2013).
