Description: —Geophytic, bulbous plants. Bulbs 1–3 cm diam., ovoid, tunic greyish brown to dark brown. Leaves 3–6, overtopping the scape, outer ones 7–23× 4–8 cm, narrowly linear to linear-lanceolate, lanceolate or rarely to oblanceolate-obovate, canaliculate, eciliate at margins. Scape single or rarely 2 per bulb, (2–3–) 6–12 cm long, elongating in fruit. Raceme densely 6–25-flowered, up to 2 cm diam. when flowering, elongating in fruit. Pedicel 0.5–2.5 mm long elongating up to 5 mm in fruit, ascending, thickened. Flower buds pale brownish to olive green. Perianth pale blue, becoming brownish when dried, 6.5–10(–12) mm long, tubular-campanulate; lobes actinomorphic with all lobes equal or sub-zygomorphic with one exterior lobe being larger than the others, 1/2–1/3 as long as the tube, rounded at the apex. Filaments c. 1.5–2 mm long, triangular-subulate, flattened, connate at base; anthers violet, ca. 1.5 mm long. Capsules distinctly tri-lobed, acute first, becoming emarginate when mature; valves 10–13× 10–16 mm, broadly ovate to broadly elliptic. Seeds brown to dark brown or black, rounded to broadly elliptic, 2–2.5 mm diam.
