Rhinomiridius Poppius, 1909: 8 (original description; type species Rhinomiridius aethiopicus Poppius, 1909 by monotypy); Carvalho 1957: 24 (catalogue); Schuh 1995: 36 (catalogue); Gorczyca & Chérot 1998: 46 (redescription, key to species); Gorczyca 2006: 73 (catalogue).
Remarks
Rhinomiridius is an African genus with five species: Rhinomiridius aethiopicus , Rhinomiridius bioculatus Girault, 1974 , Rhinomiridius dentatus Gorczyca & Chérot, 1998 , Rhinomiridius donisi Gorczyca & Chérot, 1998 and Rhinomiridius ogoouensis Odhiambo, 1967 View in CoL . We examined only Rhinomiridius aethiopicus and found it to be similar to Rhinomiris View in CoL in the characters of the head, thoracic pleura and genitalia. In Rhinomiridius aethiopicus and Rhinomiris species, the head is more or less ventrally inclined ( Figs 5, 22B), the peritreme is raised above the evaporatorium and elongate ( Figs 5, 22E), the ductus seminis is short ( Figs 21A, B, 23A– C), and the outer margin of the left paramere has a subbasal outgrowth ( Figs 21D, 23E). We did not obtain molecular data for Rhinomiridius in this study. Nonetheless, Rhinomiris View in CoL and Rhinomiridius formed a sister-group relationship with significant support in the morphological and total-evidence analyses ( Figs 1, 3).
