Based on the median-joining haplotype network and the uncorrected COI p-distances between different geographic populations of P. ( C.) mandibularoides , we suggest that the species was initially of trans-Beringian origin, from where it later spread across both North America and northern Eurasia. The range of the species in Eurasia extended from Chukotka and Wrangel Island in the east ( Zubrii et al. 2022a) to northern Yakutia (possibly restricted to the Kolyma Lowland) in the west. In North America, P. ( C.) mandibularoides was distributed from Alaska to northern Canada ( Ball, 1966).
