Napeocles Bates, 1864 View in CoL is a junior subjective synonym of Siproeta Hübner, [1823]

We obtained genomic data for all 10 known species of Victorinini Scudder, 1893, and the resulting phylogenetic tree revealed that the monotypic genus

Napeocles Bates, 1864 (type species Hamadryas jucunda Hübner, [1808] ) clusters very closely with

Siproeta Hübner, [1823] (type species Siproeta trayja

Hübner, [1823], currently a subspecies of Siproeta epaphus (Latreille, [1813])) (Fig. 44). The 4 species in this clade clump together, suggesting that Napeocles

Bates, 1864 is a junior subjective synonym of Siproeta Hübner, [1823] despite profound differences in wing shape and patterns, a result of apparently convergent similarity with dead leaf mimics.
