Epitonium View in CoL sp. nov. — Harzhauser et al. 2014: 92, pl. 3, fig. 5.

Material. NHMW 2014/0379/0036, SL: 13 mm, MD: 4.5 mm, natural cast with corresponding silicone mould, Allerding ( Austria), Fig. 28K View FIGURE 28 , 32C View FIGURE 32 .

Revised description. Medium-sized, very slender turreted (apical angle 17°). Protoconch and early teleoconch whorls unknown. Teleoconch whorls strongly and evenly convex, periphery placed mid-whorl. Suture deeply impressed. Sculpture of close-set, prosocline, delicate, low lamellae, not aligned axially (?: ~20: ~20). Aperture not preserved.

Discussion. The single available specimen is too incomplete to serve as type specimen although it surely represents a yet undescribed species. It is reminiscent of the extant Mediterranean Hyaloscala pulchella (Bivona e Bernardi, 1832) , which is usually broader and has more widely spaced lamellae (see Weil et al. 1999: 101). The Paratethyan species could be mistaken for a Sodaliscala de Boury, 1909 [type species Sodaliscala multistriata ( Say, 1826) ; present-day, western Atlantic] but this genus differs in the presence of spiral threads.

Paleoenvironment. Coastal marine close to a rocky shore ( Harzhauser et al. 2014).

Distribution in Central Paratethys. Ottnangian (Early Miocene): North Alpine Foreland Basin: Allerding ( Austria).

Genus Librariscala Kilburn, 1985

Type species. Scalaria millecostata Pease, 1861 View in CoL ; original designation by Kilburn (1985: 302). Present-day, South Africa.

Diagnosis. “ Shell pyramidal to acuminate, with convex whorls, a simple suture and a thin peristome, umbilicus open or closed; sculptured by dense, tubular axial riblets and interstitial spiral threads. “ ( Kilburn 1985: 302).

Discussion. The type species has a broad conical shell, whereas the Paratethyan species is closer to the comparatively slenderer species, such as Librariscala parvonatrix ( Kilburn, 1985) , from South Africa, and Librariscala boutetorum ( García, 2016) , from French Polynesia. Librariscala costatissima sp. nov. is the first fossil record of this genus known to us. Hyaloscala de Boury, 1890 differs in its more constant growth, shaper, more erect and wider spaced lamellae and weaker varices.
