Cycloperipsocus plurimaculatus ( Li, 1992) View in CoL
( Figs 20–21 View FIGURE 20 View FIGURE 21 )
Peripsocus plurimaculatus Li, 1992: 26 View in CoL . Type locality: China (Yunnan: Mengla , XTBG).
Cycloperipsocus diplocyclus Li, 2002: 1233 View in CoL . Type locality: China (Yunnan: Mengla, Menglun ) syn. nov.
Diagnosis. Forewing M1 bent backwards, with markings at end of R4+5 and M1, markings in M area scattered ( Figs 20A View FIGURE 20 , 21A View FIGURE 21 ). Phallosome rounded at apex. Paramere with its tip expanded into fan-shaped, inner process absent.
Redescription (based on re-examination of type specimens). Female ( Fig. 20 View FIGURE 20 ). Coloration (preserved in mixed solution of glycerin and ethanol). Head faint yellow; postclypeus with light brown spots arranged in oblique rows; anteclypeus, labrum and maxillary palpus pale brown; ocelli and ocellar region faint yellow; compound eyes dark brown. Antennae: scape and pedicel light brown, flagellum pale cream. Thorax yellowish-brown, with brown markings on dorsal side. Legs faint yellow expect pretarsi light brown. Wings cream white with faint brown markings as in Figs 20A–B View FIGURE 20 ; distal 2/3 of pterostigma chocolate brown; markings in forewing M area scattered. Pregenital abdominal segments faint yellow. Terminalia light brown.
Morphology. Epiproct semicircular. Paraproct subtriangular. Subgenital plate ( Fig. 20F View FIGURE 20 ) with pigmented area Vshaped; pigmented arm narrowing toward end; egg guide short, slightly constricted at base, outer and distal margin folded inward. Gonapophyses ( Fig. 20G View FIGURE 20 ): ventral valve broadened in middle, narrowing toward apex; dorsal valve broad, oblong, about 1.5 times as long as its width, with a row of long setae along distal margin; external valve rectangular, about half the length of dorsal valve, slightly setose.
Measurements (in μm) (1 female). B: 1576, BW: 2018, IO: 219, d: 103, IO/d: 2.13, f1: 128, FWL: 1732, FWW: 701, HWL: 1279, HWW: 441, t1: 107, t2: 65. Number of ctenidia on hind first tarsomere: 8.
Male ( Fig. 21 View FIGURE 21 ). Coloration (preserved in mixed solution of glycerin and ethanol). Head faint yellow; postclypeus damaged; anteclypeus and labrum light brown; maxillary palpus pale faint yellow but light brown along inner margin; ocelli and ocellar region pale cream; compound eyes dark brown. Other parts generally same as female except pterostigma shallow in color.
Morphology. Clunium slightly extended, without any process or serrations. Epiproct and paraproct missing. Hypandrium simple. Phallosome ( Figs 21F–H View FIGURE 21 ) basally closed, slightly constricted in the middle; aedeagal arch rounded at apex, distal 1/4 hood-like; parameres distally expanded into fan-shaped, inner process absent. Penis bulb consists of a middle thorn and a pair of lateral lobes; lateral lobe expanded into hemispheric shape, outer margin smooth, inner margin with a spine pointed forward.
Measurements (in μm) (1 male). IO: 147, d: 142, IO/d: 1.03, f1: 141, FWL: 1631, FWW: 682, HWL: 1227, HWW: 429, t1: 138, t2: 77. Number of ctenidia on hind first tarsomere: 14.
Materials examined. Holotype female, China: Yunnan, Xishuangbanna, Mengla, Menglun Town, Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden , 10.IX.1989, Fasheng Li ( CAU) . Paratypes: 1 male (= holotype of C. diplocyclus , newly designated), China: Yunnan, Xishuangbanna, Mengla, Menglun Town , 800 m, 10.IV.1981, Fasheng Li ( CAU) ; 1 female (newly designated), same as holotype ( CAU) .
Known distribution. China (Yunnan).
Remarks. We synonymize C. diplocyclus with C. plurimaculatus according to their identical type localities as well as shared features of forewing (i.e., the backward bent M1 and markings at the end of R4+5 and M1) which are different from all other species of Cycloperipsocus . The type specimens were badly discolored because of preserving in mixed solution of glycerin and ethanol for so long. Unfortunately, there are no newly collected specimens of this species. Our redescription based on type specimens is mainly intended to describe the genitalia in detail, especially the phallosome which is too sketchy in Li’s line drawings.
