Cycloperipsocus grammacus sp. nov.

( Figs 6–9 View FIGURE 6 View FIGURE 7 View FIGURE 8 View FIGURE 9 )

Diagnosis. Postclypeus with distinct brown spots arranged in oblique rows. Phallosome gently pointed at apex; Paramere with its tip slightly expanded, inner process absent.

Description. Male ( Figs 6–7 View FIGURE 6 View FIGURE 7 ). Coloration (preserved in 95% ethanol). Head light brown; vertex with brown markings; gena dark brown at bottom half; postclypeus with distinct brown spots arranged in symmetrical oblique rows; anteclypeus and labrum brown, maxillary palpus brown; ocelli and ocellar region cream white; compound eyes black. Antennae: scape brown, pedicel and flagellum pale brown. Thorax brown; scutellum, postnotum of mesothorax and scutellum of metathorax pale cream. Legs: coxae brown; femora brown but pale cream at both ends; tibiae, tarsi and pretarsi pale brown. Wings cream white with taupe markings as in Figs 6B–C View FIGURE 6 ; distal half of pterostigma dark gray; forewing Mb dark gray, a pale spot present at distal margin of cell M2. Pregenital abdominal segments cream, with reddish-purple markings on ventral and lateral sides. Terminalia grayish brown.

Morphology. Clunium slightly extended, without any process or serrations. Epiproct semicircular. Paraproct ovoid, inner margin with a small process; posterior lobe ovate; a small piece of sclerite present between paraproct and clunium. Hypandrium simple. Phallosome ( Figs 7C–H View FIGURE 7 ) basally closed, constricted in the middle; aedeagal arch with apex gently pointed, distal 1/3 hood-like; Paramere slightly expanded at apex, inner process absent. Penis bulb consists of a middle thorn and a pair of lateral lobes; lateral lobe expanded into hemispheric shape, serrated along outer margin, inner margin with a short spine pointed forward.

Measurements (in μm) (1 male). B: 999, IO: 133, d: 143, IO/d: 0.93, f1: 132, FWL: 1478, FWW: 651, HWL: 1150, HWW: 416, t1: 107, t2: 66. Number of ctenidia on hind first tarsomere: 12.

Female ( Figs 8–9 View FIGURE 8 View FIGURE 9 ). Coloration (preserved in 95% ethanol). Head: vertex pale cream with faint markings; frons cream white, with a pale brown area around ocellar region and a pair of reddish-brown spots between postclypeus and compound eyes; gena cream white, bottom 1/3 brown, a small brown spot present rear to compound eye. Antennae: scape brown, pedicel and flagellum buff, flagellum darkening toward apex. Other parts generally same as male except pterostigma dark brown at distal half.

Morphology. Epiproct semicircular. Paraproct subtriangular. Subgenital plate ( Figs 9D–E View FIGURE 9 ) with pigmented area V-shaped; pigmented arm bifurcate at apex; egg guide short, outer and distal margin folded inward. Gonapophyses ( Fig. 9F View FIGURE 9 ): ventral valve broadened but rapidly narrowing toward apex; dorsal valve broad, oblong, about 1.5 times as long as its width, with a row of setae along distal margin; external valve rectangular, about half the length of dorsal valve, slightly setose.

Measurements (in μm) (1 female). B: 1278, IO: 232, d: 77, IO/d: 2.99, f1: 114, FWL: 1672, FWW: 660, HWL: 1255, HWW: 445, t1: 119, t2: 50. Number of ctenidia on hind first tarsomere: 9–10.

Material examined. Holotype male, China: Yunnan, Xishuangbanna, Mengla, Menglun Town, Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden , 551 m, 26.IV.2019, Xingyue Liu ( CAU) . Paratypes: 1 female, Laos: Luang Namtha, Nam Ha NBCA, along Route 3, near Nam O , 730 m, 23.III.2016, Xingyue Liu ( CAU) ; 1 female, Laos: Luang Namtha, Nam Ha NBCA, along Route 3 , 690–750, 22.III.2016, Xingyue Liu ( CAU) .

Known distribution. China (Yunnan); Laos (Luang Namtha).

Etymology. The specific epithet refers to the distinct streaks of brown spots on the postclypeus.

Remarks. This new species resembles C. stictus sp. nov. in the male phallosome with apex pointed but can be distinguished from it by the distinct brown markings on postclypeus and the lack of inner process on the male paramere.
