Cycloperipsocus albimaculatus sp. nov.

( Figs 2–5 View FIGURE 2 View FIGURE 3 View FIGURE 4 View FIGURE 5 )

Diagnosis. Postclypeus without markings or with blurry stripes. Forewing with a pale spot at distal margin of cell M2. Phallosome rounded at apex. Paramere with its tip slightly expanded. Lateral lobe of penis bulb without distinct serrations along outer margin, the spine on its inner margin relatively short and strong.

Description. Male ( Figs 2–3 View FIGURE 2 View FIGURE 3 ). Coloration (preserved in 95% ethanol). Head brown; vertex with dark-colored markings; postclypeus brown, sometimes with blurry stripes; anteclypeus and labrum brown; maxillary palpus pale cream; ocelli pale cream but inner margin reddish-brown, ocellar region reddish-brown; compound eyes black. Antennae pale taupe. Thorax brown; scutellum, postnotum of mesothorax and scutellum of metathorax pale cream. Legs: fore coxae pale brown, mid and hind coxae pale cream; femora pale cream; fore and mid tibiae brown, hind tibiae pale brown; fore tarsi light brown, mid and hind tarsi pale cream; pretarsi brown. Wings cream white with taupe markings as in Figs 2C–D View FIGURE 2 ; distal half of pterostigma somewhat darkened; a pale spot present at distal margin of forewing cell M2. Pregenital abdominal segments cream, with dark reddish-purple markings on ventral and lateral sides. Terminalia grayish brown.

Morphology. Clunium slightly extended, without any process or serrations. Epiproct semicircular. Paraproct ovoid; posterior lobe ovate; a small piece of sclerite present between paraproct and clunium. Hypandrium simple. Phallosome ( Figs 3C–H View FIGURE 3 ) basally closed, slightly constricted in the middle; aedeagal arch with apex rounded, distal 1/3 hood-like; Paramere slightly expanded at apex, inner process absent. Penis bulb consists of a middle thorn and a pair of lateral lobes; lateral lobe expanded into hemispheric shape, outer margin without serrations, inner margin with a strong spine curved outward.

Measurements (in μm) (6 males). B: 1142–1374, IO: 138–149, d: 137–149, IO/d: 0.93–1.08, f1: 151–172, FWL: 1569–1750, FWW: 693–773, HWL: 1194–1324, HWW: 443–496, t1: 104–123, t2: 61–71. Number of ctenidia on hind first tarsomere: 10–11.

Female ( Figs 4–5 View FIGURE 4 View FIGURE 5 ). Coloration (preserved in 95% ethanol). Head: vertex pale cream with faint markings; frons cream with a pair of indistinct spots between postclypeus and compound eyes; gena cream, bottom 1/3 light brown, a brown spot present rear to compound eye.Antennae: scape light brown; pedicel and flagellum pale cream, flagellum darkening toward apex. Other parts generally same as male.

Morphology. Epiproct semicircular. Paraproct subtriangular. Subgenital plate ( Figs 5D–E View FIGURE 5 ) with pigmented area V-shaped; egg guide short, outer and distal margin folded inward. Gonapophyses ( Fig. 5F View FIGURE 5 ): ventral valve broadened in middle, narrowing toward apex; dorsal valve broad, oblong, about 1.5 times as long as its width, with a row of setae along distal margin; external valve rectangular, about half the length of dorsal valve, slightly setose.

Measurements (in μm) (1 female). B: 1332, IO: 230, d: 87, IO/d: 2.63, f1: 106, FWL: 1666, FWW: 685, HWL: 1238, HWW: 454, t1: 111, t2: 67. Number of ctenidia on hind first tarsomere: 8.

Material examined. Holotype male, China: Hunan, Shaoyang, Xinning, Huanglong Town, Shunhuangshan NNR , 900–1100 m, 27.VIII.2020, Lulan Jie ( CAU) . Paratypes: 1 female, 4 males, same as holotype ( CAU) . 1 male, China: Hunan, Shaoyang, Xinning, Huanglong Town, Shunhuangshan NNR , 1100–1200 m, 28.VIII.2020, Lulan Jie ( CAU) .

Known distribution. China (Hunan).

Etymology. The specific epithet is combined of albi- meaning ‘white’ and maculatus meaning ‘spotted’, in reference to the pale spot at distal margin of forewing cell M2.

Remarks. This new species is close to C. rotundatus sp. nov. and can be distinguished from it by the pale spot present at distal margin of forewing cell M2 and the male paramere with its tip slightly expanded.
