Diagnosis. Head with fine, but conspicuous punctation. Antennae mostly not reaching base of pronotum (when laid back), antennomeres dilated from A4 or more conspicuously from A5 onwards, wider than long. Elytral base margined, punctation with a basal seta (often rubbed off). Prosternal length smaller than procoxal diameter. AMP rectangular, almost not bulging. Gular pads large, but conspicuously separated.
Description. Length: 6.9–9.7 mm.
Head black, glossy, with fine, relatively dense and conspicuous punctation; labrum, palpi and anterior part of clypeus yellow (tips of maxillary palpi sometimes blackened). Antennae mostly not reaching base of pronotum (when laid back), light brown to brown, antennomeres dilated from A4 onwards, from A5 onwards wider than long, A11 shorter than A9+A10, basally slightly bulbous, slightly constricted towards tip. EyW: 0.30–0.48 mm; EyD: 0.62–0.91 mm; WyD/EyW: 2.03.
Pronotum variable, slightly constricted in front, more constricted towards base, slightly sinuate before middle, black, sometimes with a reddish gleam, narrowly reddish in front and sometimes at base; almost smooth, with fine, relatively dense and conspicuous punctation, sometimes additionally wrinkled.
PL: 1.46–2.18 mm; PW: 1.12–1.76 mm; PL/PW: 1.25.
Elytra black, each humerus with a yellowish macula, shoulder with an oblique yellowish macula, with toothlike extensions (very acute and more-or-less long) towards humeri and apex, not reaching the side margin and the suture, in the middle with a transverse yellowish (slightly broader) macula, with more-or-less long extensions towards shoulder and apex, this macula reaches the side margin and the suture; elytral base margined, elytra subparallel, more-or-less dilated towards apex. Punctation in 10 rows towards the middle, then more irregular and very fine, apex almost smooth, punctation small, roundish to irregular, diameter conspicuously smaller than interstices, interstices with very fine and very small intermediate punctation; elytral punctation with a basal seta.
EL: 4.6–6.58 mm; EW: 2.2–3.17 mm; EL/EW: 2.00.
Legs dark brown to black brown, tips of femora, tibiae and tarsi lighter brown or yellowish (with tibial base darkened).
Lower surface brown to black brown, base of femora lighter; abdomen lighter brown, intersegmental sclerites light yellowish. Gula U-shaped, smooth, with very isolated punctation, gular pads large, not adjoined. Prosternal length smaller than procoxal diameter. AMP rectangular, margins almost not bulging. Mesoventrite with coarse, more-or-less deep punctation. Metaventrite almost smooth, with very fine and very diffuse punctation.
Genitalia. See Fig. 23 View FIGURE 23 . Same genitalia in all variations.
Distribution: Ethiopia, The Gambia, Guinea, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Transvaal.
