Genus Allosciurus Conisbee, 1953

( Tables 11 View TABLE ; 12 View TABLE )

REMARKS

This genus is endemic to West African Guinean forests. It is monospecific and was considered as a distinct genus from Protoxerus by Thomas (1909), Rosevear (1969) and Grubb et al. (1998) based on its skull and pelage differences. However, this was not accepted by Thorington et al. (2012) nor by Koprowski et al. (2016) without any new phylogenetical analyses. Grubb (2013) and Monadjem et al. (2015) considering the numerous morphological differences of the specimens attributed to this species retained it in the genus Allosciurus .
