Persicaria pilushanensis (Y.C.Liu & C.H.Ou) C.F.Kuo ex T.C.Hsu & S.W.Chung View in CoL , comb. nov.
≡ Polygonum pilushanense Y.C.Liu & C.H.Ou in Ou (1976: 123).
Type:— TAIWAN. Nantou, Pilushan, ca. 2500 m, 2 August 1975, F.Y.Lu & C.H.Ou 3612 (holotype: NCUF! ; isotype: TAI! [sheet no. 179368 ], image available at http://tai2.ntu.edu. tw/Specimen/specimen.php?taiid=179368) .
Note: — Persicaria pilushanensis is the only endemic species among the 35 congeneric taxa so far recognized in Taiwan ( Kuo et al. 1996, Hsu et al. 2004, Yeh et al. 2010, Chung & Hsu 2015). It is closely related to the widespread and variable P. chinensis ( Linnaeus 1753: 363) Gross (1913: 269) , but it can be readily distinguished from the latter by its dwarf habits (up to 20 cm tall) and truncate and ciliate ocrea. The combination “ Persicaria pilushanensis ” was first proposed in a thesis ( Kuo 1997) which is not effectively published and thus invalid (see Art. 30.8 of the Melbourne Code ( McNeill et al. 2012)).
