Diagnosis. Colony planar and flabellate covered with a thick tegument. Branches emerging from the short nodes, usually pseudo-dichotomously divided tending to form sections with a lyrate pattern, occasionally trichotomous. Polyps tall and cylindrical, well spaced and biserially arranged. Elongated scales to flat rods in tentacle rachis becoming smaller in pinnules with irregular outline. Flat rods/needles longitudinally or obliquely arranged in the upper part of polyp body wall, and flat rods/needles and elongate thick scales usually transversely arranged in the basal part. Sclerites in coenenchyme similar to the basal polyp body wall. Large rods/needles sometimes projecting beyond the tentacles. Small rodlets in the pharynx with blunt or conical lateral projections.
Type species. Parajasonisis flabellata Xu, Watling & Xu , sp. nov.
Etymology: Composition of the Greek prefix para (similar to) and the generic name Jasonisis , referring to the similarity of the new genus with Jasonisis .
