Type species: Homopus areolatus ( Tortue Aréolée Schoepff = Testudo areolata Thunberg , 1787), by subsequent designation by Duméril and Bibron (1835: 7).
Content: Three species (two living, one extinct †).

Conservation status
All living species are listed under CITES Appendix ll. The IUCN Red List status for H. areolatus and H. femoralis is Least Concern, the status for C. boulengeri is Near Threatened, and Vulnerable applies to C. signatus and C. solus . However, the Red List Status of these species is currently under revision.
