Curculio betulae (Stephens, 1831)

[= C. cerasorum Paykull, 1792 not Fabricius, 1775] ( Abbazzi et al. 1995). When Latreille (1810) selected Curculio nucum Linné, 1758 as the type species of Curculio Linné, 1758 , and the same species was selected by Westwood (1838) as the type of Balaninus Germar, 1817 , Balaninus betulae Stephens, 1831 became a secondary homonym of Curculio betulae Linné, 1758 , currently Byctiscus betulae (Linné) . However, since the replacement name of C. herbsti by Gemminger (1871) has never been used, according to the art. 59.3 of the Code (ICZN 1999) Curculio betulae (Stephens) is the valid name of this species.
