Type material. Holotype. [ KOREA] ♀, Sabuk-eup, Jeongseon , GW. 23 viii 2024 (leg. BK Byun), gen. slide no. HNUSEL-1876 , DNA accession no. PV571711 Paratypes. [ KOREA] 1♀, Gohan-eup, Jeongseon , GW. 24 viii 2024 (leg. BK Byun), gen. slide no. HNUSEL-1880 , DNA accession no. PV571713 -coll. NIBR ; 1♀, Sabuk-eup , Jeongseon, GW. 24 viii 2024 (leg. BK Byun), gen. slide no. HNUSEL-1879 , DNA accession no. PV571712 -coll. HNUSEL .

Diagnosis. This species resembles Argyresthia sporadolepis Liu, Wang & Li, 2017 , but can be distinguished by the downward horns of the signum longer and thinner than those of the latter species in female genitalia (see Liu et al. 2017).

Description. Adults ( Figure 3E View FIGURE 3 ). Wingspan 5-6mm. Head covered with white scales; face smooth, covered with white scales. Antenna filiform, covered with white scales, black scales at apex of each segment; scape mixed with white and brown scales. Thorax covered with white scales; tegular covered with light brown scales. Legs creamy white, dark brown scales at apex of tarsi. Forewing ground color grayish white, costal margin sparsely tinged with light brown scales; 2 black dots spreaded in median and sub-apical area; dark brown scales sprinkled across the entire forewing. Hindwing and cilia gray.

Male genitalia. Unknown.

Female genitalia ( Figure 4D View FIGURE 4 ). Papillae anales moderate, hairs on apex. Apophyses anteriorses about 1.2 times longer than apophyses posteriorses. Ostium bursae wide, slightly sclerotized; antrum elongated funnel shaped, sprinkled with minute projections slightly sclerotized at bottom. Ductus bursae about 2 times longer than corpus bursae, widening toward corpus bursae, numerous minute spinules located 1/2 of ductus bursae. Corpus bursae round, membranous; signum size moderate, basal plate irregular, consisting of numerous scale-like projections, sclerotized horns arched, consisting of minute projections, extending downward on both sides.

Distribution. Korea.

Host plants. Unknown.

Etymology. The species name maculofasciata is derived from the Latin macula meaning “spotted” and fasciata meaning “banded,” referring to the two black dots and the light brown fascia present on the forewing.

Remark. This new species, Argyresthia maculofasciata sp. nov., has a genetic distance of 7~10% from other Argyresthia species in NJ tree.
