9. P. saccharata Miller View in CoL , Gard. Diet. ed. 8, no. 3 (1768)
(P. tuberosa prol. confusa Rouy , P. pietà Rouy).
Lamina of the summer leaves up to 27 x 10 cm, narrowing rather gradually into the petiole, usually with conspicuous and confluent white spots, with more or less dense, unequal and rather fine short hairs, as well as long, rather slender setae and glandular hairs. Corolla red-violet to dark violet; tube hairy inside below the ring of hairs. Nutlets 4 x 3 mm. 2n = 22. • S. E. France, N. & C. Appennini. Ga It [Be].
This species appears to be connected by transitional forms with 7 and 8 in the zones of overlap. It differs from 7 and 8 especially in the indumentum and in the size of the leaves. As the three species have the same chromosome number, intro- gression is a possibility, but this has not been demonstrated experimentally.
