Relatively slender, with dense, almost entirely appressed, hairs; leaf-lobes relatively narrow and deep; sepals (6-)7-8(-9) mm. From Italy eastwards; naturalized in France.
Subsp. (b) is more eastern in distribution, but (a) and (b) are sympatric in many areas. Intermediates occur rather rarely.
