Ecotypic variants:

Autumnal-montane: Type of the species.

Autumnal-alpine: Gentiana rhactica A. & J. Kemer, Sched. FI. Austro-Hung. 2: 124 (1882) ( G. germanica subsp. semleri Vollmann ).

Aestival: Gentiana solstitialis Wettst. , Denkschr. Akad. Wiss. Math.- Nat. Kl. (Wien) 64: 337 (1896) ( G. germanica subsp. solstitialis (Wettst.) Vollmann ).

Gentiana rhaetica subsp. kerneri Wettst. is intermediate between the autumnal and aestival variants.
