Perennial 20-40 cm. Leaves 30-100 x c. 15 mm, with 4-7 rounded lobes on each side, hispid. Flowering stems with 3-4 wings; wings 1-3 mm wide, sometimes narrower. Inflorescence compact. Spikes dense; wing 15 x 4 mm, 3-dentate; spikelets 2-flowered. Inner bract 7 mm, with 2-3 pungent, apical spines. Calyx 10-12 mm; tube c. 7 mm, glabrous; limb c. 4 mm, entire, white or pale violet. Corolla yellowish or pink, purple when dry. Dry, sandy places. Mediterranean region, S. Portugal. Al BI Co Cr Ga Gr Hs It Ju Lu Sa Si.
