Plant 20-30 cm; stems rough, greyish-pubescent. Leaves c. 25 x c. 4 mm, linearspathulate, acute, usually withered in summer; sheaths reddishbrown. Inflorescence with branches diverging at an angle of 90°-120°; non-flowering branches numerous. Lateral spikes rudimentary, the terminal 5-6 cm, with 3 spikelets per cm; spikelets 2- to 3-flowered. Bracts with narrow hyaline margin; inner bract 3-5-4 mm; outer bract overlapping | of the inner. Calyx c. 5 - 5 mm; limb as long as the tube. Gypsaceous soils. • C. Sicilia (near Caltanissetta). Si.
