1. L. monopetalum (L.) Boiss. View in CoL in DC., Prodr. 12: 689 (1848).
Stems 50-120 cm, branched, leafy. Leaves 2-3(-8)x0-5 (-1-5) cm, oblanceolate to linear-spathulate, fleshy, glaucous, expanded below into a wide, amplexicaul sheath. Spikes 5- 10 cm, with fragile rhachis. Spikelets l(-2)-flowered, 5-10 mm apart, nearly parallel to the rhachis; outer bract 4 mm, truncate; inner bract 8 mm, forming an ellipsoid envelope around the flowers. Calyx 9 mm, enclosed by the bracts. Corolla 1-2 cm in diameter, pink, violet when dry. Maritime sands and salt-marshes. Mediterranean region, S. Portugal. Cr Ga Hs It Lu Sa Si [BI].
