Dwarf shrub; stock with long branches. Leaves acute, muticous, the margins not scarious, dimorphic, papillose; outer 40-50 x 2-4 mm, linear-spathulate, flat or canaliculate, glabrous; inner 70-80 xc. 2 mm, linear or linear-lanceolate, canaliculate, glabrous or puberulent. Scapes 20-40 cm, straight, glabrous or pubescent, somewhat verrucose. Sheath 9-12 mm. Capitula (10-) 15-20 mm wide; involucral bracts with narrow scarious margins; outer shorter than the inner, obtuse, muticous or mucronulate; inner muticous. Spikelets usually subsessile; bract almost as long as calyx. Calyx c. 6 mm; tube hirsute on ribs; awns 0-5-1 (-1- 2) mm. Corolla pinkish or white. 2n = 18.
