Herb; stock shortly branched. Leaves linear, acuminate,

subobtuse, muticous, with narrow scarious margins, dimorphic; outer 15-40 x 1-2-1-5(-2) mm, undulate-denticulate, otherwise flat; inner 3O-7O(-13O) x 0-7-1 mm, usually flat. Scapes 25- 35 cm, straight or slightly arcuate, glabrous. Sheath 10-15 mm. Capitula 10-12 mm wide; involucral bracts with wide scarious margins; outer longer than the inner, long-acuminate-cuspidate; inner obtuse, mucronate or muticous. Spikelets subsessile; bract shorter than calyx. Calyx 4-5-Ó-5 mm; tube hirsute on ribs; awns 0-5-0-8 mm, dark purplish. Corolla white. Serpentine rocks. • C. Italy (Toscana). It.
