status

(d) Subsp. elongata (Hoffm.) Bonnier View in CoL , FI. Compì. Fr. 9: 54 (1927):

Leaves 50-150 x 1 - 1-2-5 mm, linear, usually ciliate. Scapes mostly more than 25 cm, glabrous. Capitula (15 —)18— 25 mm wide; outer involucral bracts up to 25 mm, as long as or longer than the inner, long-acuminate-subulate. Corolla pale pink. 2n= 18. Sandy heaths and grassy open places. • N.& C. Europe.

Intermediates between this subspecies and 1(a), which occur where their ranges overlap, mainly in the Baltic region, have been described as A. vulgaris subsp. intermedia (Marsson) Nordh. , Norsk FI. 498 (1940), and A. ambifaria Focke , Abh. Naturw. Ver. Bremen 17: 445 (1903).

A. pocutica Pawl. , Fragm. FI. Geobot. 8: 399 (1962), from Topiez (N.E. Carpathians), is said to differ from 1(d) mainly by the outer leaves being wider than the inner, but this is also sometimes observed in plants of 1(d) from N. & C. Europe.
