Erect, deciduous shrub 2-4 m, spreading by suckers; young twigs glandular-pubescent. Leaves 6-1 2x2-4 cm, oblong-lanceolate, cuspidate, ciliate- serrulate, shortly strigose above and on the veins beneath, somewhat glaucous. Flowers in crowded, umbel-like racemes terminating leafless shoots; pedicels glandular-pubescent. Calyx 5-7 mm, deeply lobed; lobes narrowly oblong, ciliate. Corolla yellow, pubescent outside; tube 10-15 mm, narrow; limb 50 mm in diameter. Stamens 5. Ovary glandular-strigose. Woods, usually coniferous, or wet, peaty ground. E. & E.C. Europe, in a few scattered localities from N. W. Jugoslavia to S. White Russia. Au Ju Po Rs (C, W) [Br]. (Anatolia and Caucasus.)
