Like 1 but bark smooth, peeling off in papery sheets, orange-red; young twigs glabrous; leaves 3-6 cm wide, less than twice as long as wide, often entire; petiole 15-30 mm; panicle erect, appearing in spring; calyx 2-5 mm, with ovate-rhombic, acute lobes; berry 8-12 mm, reticulate-sulcate, grange. Evergreen scrub and rocky slopes. S. Albania, Greece, Aegean region; S.Krym. Al Cr Gr Rs (K) Tu.

A. x andrachnoides Link, Enum. Hort. Berol. Alt. 1: 395 (1821), the hybrid between 1 and 2, is frequent wherever the parent species grow together; it is fertile, and introgression appears to take place. It usually has the brightly-coloured bark of 2, but at least some glandular-hairs on the young twigs.
