Densely caespitose perennial; stems regularly branched forming deep, dense, more or less hemispherical cushions. Leaves 3-7(-9) mm, linear-oblong, pubescent and ciliate, densely imbricate, persistent after withering and forming columnar shoots. Peduncles 2-22 mm, usually longer than leaves. Flowers solitary but subtended by 2-3 ovate-lanceolate, glabrous involucral bracts. Calyx 2-3-5 mm, subglabrous. Corolla 4-5 mm in diameter. Seeds 1-1-5 mm. 2n=38. Rocks and screes. • E. & C. Pyrenees. Ga Hs.
