Subgen. Primula . Heterostylous. Efarinose. Leaves hairy, with revolute vernation, rugose, neither fleshy nor coriaceous. Bracts not gibbous or saccate. Calyx angled.

The 3 species in this subgenus all hybridize; the 2 most fre­ quent and widely distributed hybrids are P. x digenea A. Kerner ( P. elatior x vulgaris ) and P. x tommasinii Gren. & Godron (P. x variabilis Goupil, non Bast., P. veris x vulgaris ).
