Small shrubs. Verticillasters in lax or crowded spikes; bracts differing distinctly from the leaves. Calyx (8-)13(-15)-veined, the teeth small, subequal; uppermost tooth usually with a cordate to obovate appendage at the apex. Corolla 2-lipped, usually pale purple to blue-violet; upper lip 2-lobed; lower lip 3-lobed, the lobes equal.

All species occur in dry, usually sunny habitats.
