42. T. pannonicus All. , Auct. Syn. Meth. Stirp. Hort. Taurin. 6 (1773)
(incl. T. dzevanovskyi Klokov & Schost. , T. latifolius (Besser) Andrz. , T. marschallianus Willd. , T. serpyllum subsp. auctus Lyka , subsp. brachyphyllus Lyka & subsp. marschallianus (Willd.) Nyman , T. stepposus Klokov & Schost. ).
Like 41 but more herbaceous; leaves subsessile, herbaceous with indistinct veins and sparsely glandular-punctate; inflorescence rarely branched. 2« = 28. E.C. & E. Europe, northwards to c. 57° N. in C. Russia. Au Bu Cz Hu Ju Po Rm Rs (C, W, K, E) [Ge Rs (N)].
T. dimorphus Klokov & Schost. , Jour. Agr. Bot. (Kharkov) 1(3): 122 (1927) (incl. T. amictus Klokov , T. litoralis Klokov & Schost. ), from S.E. Ukraine and S.E. Russia, is said to differ from 42 in its distinctly petiolate middle and lower cauline leaves, long patent hairs especially below the nearly globose inflorescence, and calyx 3 -5-5 mm. It combines characters of 42 with those of 43 and is of uncertain relationship. T. pseudograniticus Klokov & Schost. , op. cit. 124 (1927) may be a hybrid between T. dimorphus and 38.
T. bulgaricus (Domin & Podp.) Ronniger in Hayek, Prodr. FI. Penins. Balcan. 2: 352 (1930), from Bulgaria, is more robust than T. dimorphus , and has leaves with prominent midribs and usually shorter, recurved stem-pubescence. It may be more closely related to 40 or 41.
