( Alectorolophus grandiflorus Wallr. ; inch R. aestivalis (Zinger) Schischkin & Serg. , R. vernalis (Zinger) Schischkin & Serg. ):

Leaves 8-15 mm wide, lanceolate to ovatelanceolate. Internodes and branches numerous or few. Bracts ovate. Capsule 10-12 mm. Seeds 3-5(-6) mm. Throughout the range o f the species.

Ecotypic variants:

Autumnal: R. major var. polycladus Chab. , Mém. Herb. Boiss. 8: 12 (1900).

Aestival: Alectorolophus aestivalis Zinger , Trudy Tiflissk. Bot. Sada 12: 184 (1913).

Vernal: Alectorolophus vernalis Zinger , loc. cit. (1913).

Montane: Alectorolophus bosniacus Behrendsen , Verh. Bot. Ver. Brandenb. 45: 210 (1904). A variant with unwinged seeds, distinguished as R. major var. apterus Fries ( R. apterus (Fries) Ostenf. ), occurs sporadically through the. northern part of the range of this subspecies.

R. bosnensis (Behrendsen & Sterneck) Soó , Omagiu Sdvulescu 739 (1959), is like 23(c) but the bracts have teeth subequal in length and the throat of the corolla is incompletely closed. It is recorded from the E. Carpathians and N. Jugoslavia.
