Stems slender, simple. Leaves few, amplexicaul. Flowers solitary (very rarely 2), terminal; bracteoles absent. Calyx tubular, 5-lobed, more or less 2-lipped. Corolla more or less 2-lipped, with 5 large, patent lobes. Stamens included. Placentae 4, deeply lobed.
