9. O. lanceolata (Gaudin) Reichenb. , FI. Germ. Excurs. 862 (1832).
Like 8 but leaves 15-45 x 4-10 mm, lanceolate, crenateserrate (rarely subentire); bracts 10-30mm, lanceolate, resembling the leaves and greatly exceeding the flowers; calyx-teeth narrowly triangular; corolla 8-9 mm. Meadows. • E. Pyrenees, S.W. & S.C. Alps. Ga Hs It.
Plants from the C. Pyrenees, which appear to correspond to O. pyrenaea (Bubani) Rothm. , Cavanillesia 7: 120 (1935), are intermediate in most respects between 8 and 9, but have some glandular hairs in the inflorescence. They require further investigation.
Plants from Sicilia generally similar to 9 but with linear bracts and yellowish-pink corolla c. 10 mm have been called O. verna subsp. sicula (Guss.) P. D. Sell , Watsonia 6: 303 (1967). They appear to be intermediate between 9 and 15 and require further investigation.
