Distribution. China (Zhejiang, Fujian, Yunnan); former Czechoslovakia, France, Hungary, Italy, Japan, Korea, Lithuania, Mongolia, Russia, Spain, Ukraine.

Remarks. According to the description and figures in Chen & Shi (2004), S. applanatus Chen et Shi has its head and mesosoma distinctly depressed, ovipositor sheath not longer than metasoma and hind coxa with basoventral tooth and corner. These and other characters allow synonymising S. applanatus with S. phymatodis .
