Basionym: Selaginella jugorum Handel-Mazzetti (1929: 8) .
Type: CHINA. Yunnan: In region alpine montis Maya inter fluvios Landsang-djiang (Mekong) et Ludjiang (Salween) , 4025 m, 23 September 1915, Handel-Mazzetti 8379 (holotype WU031718 ! ; isotypes BM000804011 ! , K001067384 ! , S-P-4538 ! ).
Distribution. China (Yunnan). Growing at ca. 4000 m ( Zhang & Zhang 2022).
Notes: This species is similar to Hypopterygiopsis tibetica in having plants 5–11 cm tall, primary leafy branches 2–6 pairs, and dorsal leaves short acuminate or aristate (≤ 0.2 mm), but the former has main stems 1–2-pinnately branched or forked, and strobili compact, more or less isomorphic, and 2–5 mm long, whereas the latter has main stems 2–3-pinnately branched, tertiary branches forked, and strobili lax, more or less isomorphic, and 3–14 mm long ( Zhang & Zhang 2022).
