Cubiceps capensis (Smith, 1845) .

Cape Cigarfish or Cape Fathead. To 100 cm (39.3 in) TL ( Agafonova 1994). Circumglobal (Haedrich in Carpenter and De Angelis 2016); one specimen taken 145 km (90 mi) west-southwest of Morro Bay, central California (35°08’N, 122°24’W) ( McCosker et al. 2004). Epipelagic and mesopelagic ( Mundy 2005); depth: to more than 800 m (2,624 ft) ( Roberts et al. 2015).
