Material examined. 2 males, 1 female, 38 miles off N Los Caracas , La Guaira state, 11°10’12”N 66°34’12”W, Fridtjof Nansen R/V st 811, 582– 592 m depth, 09.x.1988 ( USNM 256525 ) ; 1 male in same location ( MMM-Crus-470 ) .

Geographic & bathymetric distribution. Western Atlantic: from Canada (Newfoundland) to Brazil (Santa Catarina) including Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Sea ( Nevis, Guadalupe & Venezuela). Eastern Atlantic, Indo-West and Pacific Ocean; 200–1850 m depth ( Rodríguez 1980; Blanco Rambla et al. 1994; Pérez Farfante & Kensley 1997; Tavares & Serejo 2007; Poupin 2018).

Remarks. Previous records for Venezuela include NE Aruba ( Rodríguez 1980); off N Los Testigos Archipelago and off Margarita Island ( Blanco Rambla et al. 1994); off Falcón state (USNM255037; USNM255100), off NE Los Testigos Archipelago, (USNM255308), off E La Orchila Island (USNM133324), off NE Los Monjes Archipelago (USNM255157) (identified by Pérez Farfante & Kensley).
