2. armatum Dugès, 1830 View in CoL
Source. In the binomen Prostoma armatum by Dugès (1830: 74).
Type locality. Mediterranean; rocky intertidal, under stones.
Etymology. Latin adjective, armātUs, - a, - um, meaning “armed, equipped, fortified, armoured”.
Remarks. Prostoma armatum Dugès, 1830 was synonymized with Emplectonema echinoderma ( Marion, 1873) by Bürger (1904: 23). At the same time, Bürger (1904: 67) introduced Prostoma quatrefagesi Bürger, 1904 as a new replacement name for Polia armata Quatrefages, 1846 to avoid putative homonymy with Prostoma armatum Dugès, 1830 . However, because the two nominal species Prostoma armatum Dugès, 1830 and Polia armata Quatrefages, 1846 were not regarded congeneric by Bürger (1904), the replacement name Prostoma quatrefagesi Bürger, 1904 was unnecessary.
