23. sebethis Monticelli, 1910

Source. In the binomen Prostoma sebethis by Monticelli (1910a: 33).

Type locality. Sebeto , a small river running in Naples, Italy ( Fig. 9 View FIGURE 9 ) .

Etymology. A feminine noun in the nominative/genitive singular (both cases have the same ending); Sebethis is a nymph, daughter of the river and god Sebethus , near Naples ( Mandelbaum 1981: 400).

Remarks. Also mentioned as a new species in Monticelli (1910b: 367) and described in more detail in Monticelli (1916: 401–417, pl. 16, figs 1–8), which, however, was based on a single, immature specimen. Stiasny-Wijnhoff (1938: 222) and Gibson & Moore (1976: 194) regarded Prostoma sebethis as a nomen dubium, and Gibson (1995: 498) listed it as an invalid name. It is now considered synonymous with P. clepsinoides .
