Gender. Feminine.

Type species. Mutilla bicolor Pallas, 1771 (female), by original designation.

Taxonomic history. Valid subgeneric name.

Sex association. The male of the type species has not been recognized as such; Mutilla albeola Pallas, 1773: 730 , described from both sexes, was synonymized with the type species by Morawitz, 1865: 136.
